It provides an opportunity for students to exercise skills in ministry under supervision with a view to further develop these skills and to deepen theological awareness of the issues involved in ministry/chaplaincy.
Unit Learning Outcomes The aims, structure and content of each practicum will be defined by means of a contract. In this contract, the student will focus learning outcomes
1. on specific areas related to the context of the practicum
2. on specific aspects related to his/her personal growth in professional life
Outcomes should be mutually agreeable to student and supervisor. Each contract needs to be approved by the unit coordinator.
Outcomes may be set which incorporate the following general areas:
1. The acquisition of knowledge and skills
2. Integration of theology
3. Development of personal growth and professional identity
4. Identification of ethics, values and attitudes, both personal and professional
5. Knowledge of resources and organisational systems
Murdoch University has a Memorandum of Understanding with Royal Perth Hospital to enable Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) to be counted towards credit.
Timetabled Learning Activities The timetabling of learning activities is negotiated in each specific practicum. The practicum is 10.7 hours/week (or 150 hours overall), including 1 hour of supervision/week.
Unit Learning Experiences The learning experiences of the Practicum will be determined by the learning outcomes of the student.
Assessment Assessment will include attention to the student's fulfilment of the contract. It is negotiated between the student and the supervisor in accordance with the assessment guidelines of Murdoch University.
