Description In this unit we will investigate the Christian understanding of God as triune within the context of the contemporary critique of religion. We will explore the classical themes and questions of the Christian doctrine of God, as well as contemporary approaches and challenges.
Unit Learning Outcomes On successful completion of the unit you should be able to:
LO1 Display in-depth knowledge of the classical formulations of the Doctrine of the Trinity
LO2 Display in-depth knowledge of the origins of modern atheism
LO3 Critically evaluate key approaches to the Doctrine of the Trinity
LO4 Demonstrate critical and analytic skills in interpreting theological texts
LO5 Communicate your own understanding of God within the context of modern atheism.
Timetabled Learning Activities Seminars: 2 hours per week
Unit Learning Experiences Students learn through critical engagement with the relevant literature, in class and/or online discussion
Prerequisites THE505 Introduction to Theology
Exclusions Students who have successfully completed THE429 Triune God cannot enrol in this unit.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
