Equine Medicine I (VET673)

Description This unit is aimed at veterinarians wanting to further develop their knowledge in the discipline of Equine Medicine. The focus of this unit will be diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. A problem-orientated approach will be utilised and content will include both common and uncommon diseases.
Timetabled Learning Activities
Unit Learning Experiences The approach to learning in this unit is via guided reading materials consisting of book chapters and scientific articles. Course notes with defined learning objectives will supplement reading. Web-based communication strategies will be used for instruction and discussion.
Assessment Assessment will include an on-line examination, assignment, and participation in on-line discussion forums. There will be regular feedback from the Unit Coordinator and other instructors.
Prerequisites Enrolment into Master of Veterinary Clinical Studies or enrolment into Doctor of Veterinary Medical Science.
Notes Students must have completed a minimum of 12 months of clinical equine practice since graduation.
Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
