Description This unit helps students to understand how business analytics can guide and inform business decisions. In particular it focuses on developing one's ability to collect the data, analyse it and to use the results of analysis in practice. Workshops of this course are very practical and help students to develop analytical skills and to be able to work on various business analysis tasks. Finally, this unit offers students challenging but exciting opportunities to enhance their business management skills, work collaboratively and creatively.
Unit Learning Outcomes On successful completion of the unit you should be able to:
1. Explain how the internal and external factors affect organisations and how they can be managed.
2. Locate and analyse business data to inform decision-making.
3. Analyse business and its environment and apply this understanding to practice.
4. Evaluate how competitive forces affect organisation's strategy
5. Develop ability to create value for an organisation by using visual storytelling with data.
6. Use professional, interpersonal and communication skills to collect and present data .
Timetabled Learning Activities Workshops: 2 hours per teaching week
All offerings of this unit include the equivalent of 30 hours of structured learning.
Unit Learning Experiences The unit is delivered using blended learning design features with core unit materials provided in a digital format followed up by small class knowledge application and skills development. This is enhanced by self-directed learning to further develop skills and application of knowledge to practical and current issues.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
