Creative Media Professional Placement (CRE325)

Description The aim of this unit is to give selected final year students on-the-job industry experience to provide a practical bridge from university into the workplace. Industry placements may be in metropolitan or regional centres and are typically full time across four weeks (or part-time equivalent). During this time students are required to demonstrate a range of skills relevant to their industry specialisation.
Unit Learning Outcomes ULO1 Apply advanced research techniques in a creative media discipline to gather, analyse and synthesise information.
ULO2 Apply creative media theory in the field
ULO3 Demonstrate ethical thinking in interpersonal, social and professional contexts
ULO4 Demonstrate relevant critical, professional and technical skills using traditional and digital media in approaching a client brief
ULO5 Apply creative and critical thinking skills to address complex problems
ULO6 Demonstrate the use of creative media related research, methods and practices toward the creation of a client's production.
Timetabled Learning Activities
Unit Learning Experiences Professional placement with a suitable employer.
Other Learning Experiences Timetable is dependent on both the student and workplace for a mutually agreeable period. Typically 100- 150 hours total duration which may be arranged in a single block of 3-4 weeks full time, or spread over a longer period of 1-2 days per week.
Prior to the placement some preliminary research is undertaken around the specifics of the organisation and industry in which the student will be placed. Immediately post-placement there will be a reflection and evaluation of the workplace experience.
Prerequisites Enrolment by permission of Academic Chair. A grade point average of 2.5 is also required to enrol in this unit.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
