Teaching Timetables Murdoch S2

Description This unit introduces students to the profession of teaching. It commences by looking at the self as a learner/teacher and examines the impact this may have on the role of an educator. The unit enables students to appreciate the diverse roles and responsibilities of the teacher, to understand students as individuals and groups, and to develop a critical awareness of the function of schooling in Australia. The unit integrates school experience in both a primary and secondary school setting.
Prerequisites Enrolment in an initial teacher education course or permission from the Unit Coordinator.
Criminal History Record Clearance and Working with Children Clearance:
It is compulsory for all students (Internal, Interstate, Country or Overseas) to have a WA Department of Education Criminal History Record Clearance AND a Working With Children Clearance from the Department of Community Development (DCD) if they are working in a Western Australian School. For students completing their school experiences in places outside of WA, they will need to check the local regulations.
Criminal History Record Clearance application forms are available in the Murdoch University School Experience (MUSE) Office or the MUSE website. Do not apply to police stations.
Working With Children application forms are available at Western Australian Post Offices. Students need proof of identity when submitting these forms. Copies of these clearances are a requirement for placement in any school in WA. Students need to apply for their Criminal History Record Clearance at least six weeks prior to being placed in a school, as they can take time to be processed. An officer from the MUSE Office must sign the Working With Children forms, which students must take to a Post Office to be registered.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
Exclusions Students who have successfully completed EDU101 Introduction to Teaching or EDU1011 may not enrol in this unit for credit.
