Client Web Design Project (GRD338)

|Description||This unit explores advanced aspects of the design and development of websites for real world clients, such as responsive design, content management systems and project management aspects. Students participate in group-based design, production and project management methods toward the successful completion of a project.|
|Unit Learning Outcomes||On successful completion of the unit you should be able to:
1. Demonstrate sound skills in advanced web design and development
2. Demonstrate group work skills, in terms of communication and negotiation with a client
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical context of project management as it relates to web design projects
4. Demonstrate the capacity to engage in creative and critically informed web design practice
|Timetabled Learning Activities||Online lecture; media laboratories: 2.5 hours per week|
|Unit Learning Experiences||The approach to learning in this unit is project based in which students will work will real world clients to build custom themed and responsive Wordpress website. The labs involve the application of advanced web design techniques, project development workflow processes and project management skills. Students will follow a holistic project development and project management process which will involve, project research, solution definition, developing creative briefs and project specifications, designing composite iterations, the construction of a responsive Wordpress website, usability testing, maintenance and finally evaluation. The conceptual content of lectures is closely linked to the practical skills employed in the tutorials.|
|Assessment||Assessment and feedback are iterative in that each assessment will cumulatively build on the next toward the successful design and development of a client's website . Students receive feedback through, in class discussion, written assignments, student group work and online assignment feedback and discussion.
There are four types of assessment as follows:
Creative Brief worth 30%, Homework 10%, Lecture Quiz 10%, Client Website worth 50%.

|Exclusions||Students who have successfully completed MCC338 Multimedia Client Project may not enrol in this unit for credit.|

|Internet Access Requirements||Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.|
