Organisational Change, Management and Consultancy (MBS568)

Description This unit focuses on the role of the change agent (internal and external) and the applications and limitations of established change interventions in transforming organisations to meet the increasingly complex and global business environment. Broad approaches of planned interventions explored include: Organisational Development (OD); Organisational Transformation (OT); HR Interventions; Knowledge Management and Organisational Learning, ICT implementation and Business Process Re-engineering (BPR).
Unit Learning Outcomes On successful completion of the unit you should be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of how to implement strategic changes successfully
2. Correctly apply intervention tools that can be used to facilitate organisational, group and individual change in a variety of contexts
3. Exhibit effective verbal, written, digital, and team interpersonal skills in working with stakeholders to manage change
4. Evaluate issues and problems, and structure evidence-based conclusions in managing resistance and commitment to change
5. Employ individual and team learning strategies that promote intentional learning
6. Display the capability to think across cultures and contexts
7. Integrate knowledge of ethical and sustainability issues as they relate to change management programs
Timetabled Learning Activities Workshops: 2 hours per teaching week for South Street Campus Seminars (South Street).
All offerings of this unit include the equivalent of 30 hours of structured learning.
Seminars (TNE):6 sessions at 3.5 hours per session X 1 revision session at 3 hours.
Unit Learning Experiences The unit is delivered using blended learning design features with core unit materials provided in a digital format followed by seminars where students undertake case study analysis, problem-solving exercises and investigate how change management models could be applied in different types of organisations situated in different contexts. Students also undertake self-directed learning to further develop skills and application of knowledge of change management principles in various contexts. The learning process of the unit focuses specifically on the consultant/client relationship and application of methodologies appropriate for leading, planning, implementing and communicating change in different contexts.

Prerequisites Enrolment in a graduate-level course.
Exclusions Students who have successfully completed MBS648/MBS548 Organisational Change, Management and Consultancy may not enrol in this unit for credit.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
