Public Relations Internship (PRO325)

Organisational Unit Creative Media, Arts and Design

Description This unit offers final year students the opportunity to complete a professional placement and to integrate their workplace and academic learning through reflective and research-based assessments. Industry placements are full-time across three weeks (or part-time equivalent). Acceptance into the placement unit is competitive and subject to the approval of the academic chair; students must have a strong academic record to be considered.
Unit Learning Outcomes On successful completion of the unit you should be able to:
1. reflect on public relations theories and practices
2. relate theoretical concepts to professional activity
3. evaluate work practices
4. write more effectively.

Unit Learning Experiences * 15-day professional placement
* reflective and research-based assessments related to the placement
Other Learning Experiences Online modules or face-to-face workshops to prepare for the placement.
Assessment Assessments are designed to encourage reflection and learning around the industry placement.

* Satisfactory evaluation from workplace supervisor (pass/fail)
* Essay (50%)
* Journal/Portfolio (50%)

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
