|Description||This unit aims to develop the student's understanding of the theoretical components behind the organisational, social, cognitive, and behavioural dimensions of work and the workplace. This unit covers topics such as motivation, satisfaction and commitment, team and group processes, leadership, power and decision-making, organisational change and its management, and organisational learning. . The instructional content of the unit and the evaluation components reflect an evidence-informed approach to practice within an organisational context.|
|Unit Learning Outcomes||On successful completion of the unit you should be able to:
1. Understand, and know where to find information about issues in organisational behaviour that are related to the work of organisational psychologists.
2. Understand and explain theories and issues relating to multi-level organisational behaviour.
3. Understand and explain the basis of evidence based practice in occupational and service settings.
4. Construct an evidence based intervention review.
|Timetabled Learning Activities||Seminars: 12 x 2 hour sessions throughout the semester.|
|Unit Learning Experiences||This unit will involve learning experiences via the seminar sessions, and via the online discussion topics, both of which are provided on a weekly basis. The seminars are structured around core topics and links to related materials are provided via LMS to further enhance self-directed learning. The seminars will provide a blend of theoretical content and developments in the academic literature, a discussion of how practitioners can apply this information in the workplace, and in-class activities and peer discussion will which assist in consolidating your understanding of the unit content. This unit will require skills in independent study, well developed critical thinking skills, and the application of theory and concepts to applied situations.
During each week, online discussion activities conducted on the unit's LMS site will occur. The discussion activities may ask students to report on further investigations of specific topics relevant to the seminars, describe how the topics or constructs discussed can be considered at varying levels of the organisational hierarchy, or to provide examples from previous work experiences regarding the topics.

|Assessment||Students will complete as part of the unit's assessments the online discussion activities (demonstrating an understanding of the topics in terms of theory and applications), an evidence-based intervention strategy (demonstrating an understanding of how to design, measure, and assess an evidence-based organisational intervention on a topic of choice), and an end of semester examination (reflecting an understanding of the unit topics, in terms of theory and applications, from a multi-level perspective).|

|Internet Access Requirements||Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.|
