Factual Production (SCR303)

Description Factual Production is the largest field of Screen Production! From Docos to Reality TV, from client to broadcast production - this unit will empower you to be prepared for the workforce. Students make a factual production for a client, and shoot a live event.
Students will develop core industry skills and business practices for live, online, or broadcast. They will also learn chromakey, virtual set, and After Effects. Factual Production is recommended for students who wish to set up their own production business.
Unit Learning Outcomes · UL01 Demonstrate knowledge of the components of broadcast, events, and various factual programs
· UL02 Recognise the theories specific to these screen entities and reflect on their value and effect in light of your own production experiences in SCR303
· UL03 Implement client based project skills including the development of briefs, budgets, understanding of insurance/copyright, working with clients in a business setting, production management, delivery expectations
· UL04 Possess a broader mastery of production skills over a number of areas (ie. Camera, sound, lighting, switching, producing/directing)
· UL05 Demonstrate a level of professionalism when working with clients and in client based projects
UL06 Demonstrate ability to work effectively in an a live production events environment (eg. sports)
Timetabled Learning Activities Seminars 1 hour over 6 weeks, Workshops 2hrs per week
Unit Learning Experiences The seminars provide the theoretical and conceptual knowledge which prepare students for the practical exercises required of them during workshop time. Armed with this knowledge and experience, students are set up for the group-based assessments that are distributed over the semester.
Other Learning Experiences In the unit, students will work on a number of group based productions on the field. They will be also required to shoot a real live events production as part of their final assessment.
Assessment The unit has 2 production-based assessments that include the creation of a factual production and a live-events coverage, and a short answer test.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
