Advanced Sound Production (SOU378)

Description This unit extends the practical, critical and research skills developed in each of the units in the degree. This unit is designed to be the final production unit in the Sound major. It brings together many of the concepts and skills developed in each of the units in the Sound major in a client-based project. Students are also encouraged to explore collaborative links with other students within the Sound major and in other disciplines.
Unit Learning Outcomes ULO1 demonstrate a knowledge and application of the principles and concepts of sound production practice
ULO2 present information, articulating arguments and conclusions, in a variety of modes, to diverse audiences, and for a range of purposes
ULO3 communicate through the creative use of sound in a variety of modes, to diverse audiences, and for a range of purposes
ULO4 collect, record and interpret data, incorporating qualitative and quantitative evidence into reasoned arguments
ULO5 synthesise and evaluate information from a range of sources, including traditional and emerging methods and technologies
ULO6 determine an appropriate course of action to work to a particular brief
ULO7 apply recognised methods and appropriate practical techniques and tools, and be able to adapt these techniques as necessary
ULO8 demonstrate the capacity for working responsibly and safely
Timetabled Learning Activities Seminars/workshops: 3 hours per week for first 8 weeks; individual consultation thereafter.
Unit Learning Experiences The approach to learning in this unit is a combination of seminar/workshops and individually directed projects.
Assessment The assessments are organised around individual and (or) group projects. Typically there will be a (written) pre-production component followed by the actual production and a written reflection paper.
Prerequisites SOU268 Music Technology (or MCC268 Music Technology) and SOU214 Sound Production (or MCC214 Sound Production).
Exclusions Students who have completed SOU378 Sound Projects may not enrol in this unit for credit.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
