Veterinary Case Management Rounds (VET678)

Description This unit explores issues that are pertinent to evidence-based clinical veterinary case management. The students are required to attend and contribute to a variety of hospital rounds including (1) discipline-relevant rounds, (2) weekly multi-discipline rounds (MDR), with at least one case presentation during the unit, and/or (3) journal club or other relevant discussion rounds as determined by the Supervisor.
Unit Learning Outcomes On successful completion of the unit you should be able to:

* Verbally deliver a case presentation to veterinary colleagues in a professional manner
* Analyse and modify your presentation style following audience feedback and critical reflection
* Provide a critical assessment of a peer's case presentation
* Critically evaluate a journal article.
Timetabled Learning Activities There are approximately 10 MDR's scheduled per semester. Frequency of discipline related rounds should be no less than weekly. Frequency of journal club should be no less than bimonthly. Attendance at >80% of rounds is necessary.
Unit Learning Experiences The approach to learning in this unit is self directed learning by the student with feedback received form their clinical supervisors will allow them to modify and improve the skill they will acquire throughout the course.
Assessment The aim of this unit is to develop skills of information assimilation, scientific interpretation and verbal communication, to and with veterinarians at a post graduate level in a variety of clinical disciplines. Assessment is in the form of
1. Participation in greater than 75% of MDR's and journal article evaluations (15%)
2. Teacher (30%) and peer review (5%) of presentations of material pertaining to their area of veterinary clinical interest
3. Teacher review of presentation and critique of scientific literature from their area of veterinary clinical interest (50%)

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
