Volunteer Programs

The University Developmental Transcript records student participation in approved Volunteer Programs. Below are some notes regarding Volunteer Programs; for further information see http://www.murdoch.edu.au/admin/policies/devtrans.html.

Only purely volunteer programs are eligible for inclusion on the Developmental Transcript. Programs in which the student receives either payment or academic credit are not eligible.
The Volunteer Program must require a significant commitment from participating students. As a general guide, a minimum level of commitment in any 12-month period (which can span successive semesters in two calendar years) would be roughly equivalent to the commitment expected of a student completing a unit of study, i.e. 40 contact hours.
The Volunteer Program should provide student volunteers with opportunities to develop and demonstrate skills in areas such as communication, leadership, team work, time management, problem-solving; and initiative.
Membership in Committees may be recognised through the Student Leadership Program.
Entries on the Developmental Transcript will only be made on a student's Developmental Transcript after the Coordinator of the Volunteer Program has certified that the student has achieved a satisfactory level of participation/performance/achievement. In making a decision on the significance of a student's commitment, a Coordinator of a Volunteer Program may take into account a student's cumulative participation over an extended period.
Inclusion of a program on a student's Developmental Transcript will only take place on successful completion, otherwise no entry will appear.
Successful completion of a student’s participation in a Volunteer Program will automatically be recorded on their Developmental Transcript unless they advise the Coordinator of the Program in writing that they do not wish their participation to be recorded.
Any appeals relating to inclusion of items in a student's Developmental Transcript will be decided by the Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic).
