Learning outcomes

1.

Acquire an understanding of the breadth and depth of the mathematical sciences and advanced knowledge of the principles, concepts and methods of Mathematics and Statistics

2.

Construct logical, clearly presented and justified arguments incorporating deductive reasoning

3.

Apply mathematical and statistical principles, concepts and techniques to solve practical and abstract problems, and critically appraise the generality and limits of the solution

4.

Formulate mathematical or statistical models for scientific, natural or technological phenomena or processes

5.

Identify and apply suitable numerical methods for the study of mathematical or statistical processes or problems, and use appropriate software to implement computational analyses in the context of mathematics and statistics

Communicate mathematical and statistical matters effectively and accurately to technical and non-technical audiences in oral or written form in ways that conform to professional standards

Develop effective and respectful teamwork skills with an ability to respond to a diverse range of perspectives and contexts, and the skill to work independently with responsibility for set tasks

Use self-guided learning to tackle problems beyond the current level of knowledge or the current level of problem solving ability
