of the role of journalism and its practice using digital technology
Recognise the power and influence of the news media in society, its role as
the fourth estate in a western liberal democracy, and the associated
responsibilities of journalists in cultural and political contexts
Develop thorough knowledge of journalism ethics, news gathering and
story writing techniques to operate in a professional media environment
Work within a professional news organisation to gather information for
the production of multi‐media editorial content in text, audio and video
digital formats
Assess the relevance and importance of breaking news in the context of
the 24/7 media environment and be able to compile reports suitable for
publication across all news platforms
Gather news through research and interviews that is suitable for
publication according to journalistic principles of practice and ethics and
which meets the needs of the public
Produce professional, current and ethical news reports and features
suitable for publication on a range of publishing platforms according to a
variety of styles for different audiences
Be technically skilled in using all forms of digital media to compile news
packages suitable for uploading and transmission
Draw on skills and knowledge of journalistic theory and practice in
responding to editorial direction to pursue story assignments
Be able to adapt editorial techniques, tools and technologies to elicit
the optimal potential value of news stories
