In this major, you will learn about the rapidly developing area of crime science. It focuses on the immediate causes of burgeoning crime rates in which crime scientists are concerned with why, where, when, by whom, and how a particular offence was committed. The Crime Science major provides opportunities to engage with areas of science that impact on the solving and prevention of crime. It develops an appreciation of the need for multi‐disciplinary problem solving in this area. As part of your studies, you will examine approaches used to identify crime hotspots and how patterns of crime have changed over time. You will examine criminal cases and learn how to critically evaluate police procedures, the judicial process and the interpretation of the forensic evidence. You can combine this major with Criminal Behaviour or Legal Studies to add depth and breadth to your understanding of Criminology. You may also combine this major with studies in another area such as Forensic Biology and Toxicology.
