Learning outcomes

1.

Demonstrate proficiency in comprehension of texts written in contemporary Japanese aimed at a general readership.

2.

Demonstrate proficiency in use of the contemporary Japanese writing system (hiragana, katakana and several hundred of the most commonly used kanji characters).

3.

Demonstrate proficiency in oral communication in contemporary Japanese in a range of social and academic settings.

4.

Identify and apply the linguistic and grammatical principles of contemporary Japanese language in written and oral communication.

5.

Construct and articulate critical or creative arguments or narratives in contemporary Japanese in written and oral form.

6.

Evaluate the cultural role and function of Japanese language in Japanese society.
