Learning outcomes

Identify the core mechanisms of adaptive immunity and immunological memory that underpin vaccine science and relate these to the concepts of correlates of protection, vaccine boosting and herd immunity
2.
Examine the components of common vaccine types and compare their impact on reactogenicity and immunogenicity
3.
Critically evaluate the process for vaccine research, development and commercialisation with reference to a recently released vaccine
4.
Describe the processes needed for safe implementation and monitoring of vaccines and evaluate this for a recently released vaccine
5.
Synthesize a design for a novel vaccine against an important human disease using in silico vaccine design tools and communicate the pathway for its development
