Dietary assessment: analyse student’s own dietary intake to understand own nutrient profile.
Explain the role of specific nutrients, nutritional deficiencies and excesses, and the current Australian nutrition recommendations for a healthy diet and health promotion.
Provide general nutrition advice and recommend healthy eating for each life stage in the context of health promotion involving individual consultations and community programs.
Gain knowledge of the interactive role of nutrition in health and the prevention of disease: discuss nutrition-related conditions and diseases, identify risk factors; and describe preventive measures and dietary strategies/management where appropriate.

Topics include nutrients, nutritional deficiency and excess, nutritional assessment and current Australian nutritional recommendations, life cycle nutrition from conception to old age including special populations, nutrition-related chronic diseases (e.g. obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, cancer and musculoskeletal conditions) and global challenges including United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals related to food, nutrition and health.
