Enrolment rules

Enrolment in the Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care or Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care or Master of Education (Coursework) (MEd).
Students who have successfully completed EDN537 Babies and Toddlers Growing and Learning, or Babies and Toddlers Effective Pedagogies and Toddlers Growing and Learning may not enrol in this unit for credit

Learning outcomes

1.
Understand the role of early childhood educators as responsive to diverse experiences of childhood;
2.
Identify some of the critical milestones in young children’s development across a range of domains;
3.
Design an ECEC program that supports the growth and learning of babies and toddlers; and
4.
Recognise diverse tools for observing, monitoring and/or assessing that are appropriate to early childhood education and care.

Unit content:The unit covers content that will: 1. Provide opportunities to apply theoretical understandings of early childhood education and care to practical program designs; 2. Initiate discussion about the scope and purpose of early childhood education and care; 3. Analyse contemporary issues in early childhood education and care; and 4. Extend critical and creative thinking about early years learning.
Other notes:Students must have two current mandatory checks on record in the Murdoch University School of Education Professional Experience Office prior to commencement of this placement: Department of Education National Police History Check and a WA Working with Children Check.
