Additional information

Unit content:Histopathology is the stream of clinical pathology that studies cellular abnormalities and disease processes in human tissues through the application of various histopathologic techniques. This unit covers different aspects of general pathology (inflammation, cancer immune disorders, etc.) and systemic pathology (pathologic processes in major organ systems of the body). It also includes: (a) general tissue collection, processing, fixation, and embedding procedures for histopathologic examination; (b) tissue specimen sectioning by using microtome and cryostat; (c) principles and applications of histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and special staining procedures; (d) histopathologic examination of different organ system by using microscopy; (e) quality control and assurance in Histopathology laboratory. This unit will cover these topics using an integrated series of lectures, tutorials, and practicals. There will be an emphasis on the development of laboratory skills and problem solving through case studies.
