Additional information

Unit content:

The course is divided into four modules that focus on various aspects of SchemaPlay ™ teaching and learning.

  1. Understanding schemes: Participants learn about the importance of schemes, which are the repeated patterns of behaviours that children apply in their self-chosen free play. They learn how to identify and utilise schemes in their teaching practice, and how to seed play learning environments to support children's holistic development through scheme explorations.
  2. Play-based pedagogies: SchemaPlay™ training emphasises the importance of play-based pedagogies in early childhood education. Participants learn how to create stimulating play-based learning environments that foster children's natural curiosity and promote the development of lifelong learning skills.
  3. Child-centered pedagogy: SchemaPlay™ training emphasises the importance of child-centered pedagogy, which focuses on children's individual interests, needs, aspirations and abilities. Participants learn how to create an environment where children feel supported and encouraged to explore and learn through play.
  4. Observation and evaluation: Participants learn how to observe and evaluate children's play behaviour and use documentation to support reflective practice. They also learn how to adapt SchemaPlay™ techniques and interventions to suit individual children and collaborative learning projects.
Other notes:

Delivery modes for each module may include a mix of online lectures, readings, and discussions, as well as hands-on activities, fieldwork, and video case studies. Participants may also have the opportunity to engage in group work and peer-to-peer learning activities.
