Learning outcomes

1.

Articulate the key objectives of a teaching and learning program for a primary maths and science classroom and critically analyse different teaching approaches and strategies for their potential to achieve these objectives.

2.

Analyse lessons given by expert primary mathematics and science teachers and, inter alia, (a) identify the teachers' most effective strategies in engaging students and supporting the development of their mathematics and science learning and (b) examine students' conversations and work samples in order to assess their level of mathematics and science conceptual understanding and skills. 

3.

Plan an inquiry-based learning task and evaluate its effectiveness.

4.

Create a project-based learning plan for a primary classroom to integrate mathematics, science and technologies learning.

This unit covers a range of topics relevant to teaching and integrating Mathematics, Science and Technologies in the primary years, including inquiry-based, project-based and collaborative teaching and learning, critical thinking, differentiation for diverse learners, numeracy and sustainability, among others.
