Learning outcomes

1.

Analyse examples of contemporary practice in community development, drawing on the expertise of an experienced and dynamic scholar practitioner.

2.

Examine the conditions that support community development practice when prevailing approaches of organisations and governments exclude community members.

3.

Critically reflect on the challenges and tensions that confront practitioners who seek to adopt community development principals and methods while working in governments, community, NGOs, or other ‘community service’ settings.

4.

Evaluate at least one recent example of a project that successfully involves community members in the design and governance of programmes.

5.

Practice dialogical exchange by posing questions and entering into conversation with practitioner scholar and other students.
