Unit content:
The content will address the following questions and issues:
-What is numeracy?
- The contextuality of numeracy: sociocultural, political and educational aspects, the workplace; surveying current forms
- Measuring numeracy in broad contexts: benchmarks, standards bearers;
- Whence innumeracy?
- How numerate are you? Reflecting your past, assessing your present and setting goals for your future
- Learning and numeracy: within the subject of school mathematics and within the contexts of schools
- Teaching numeracy: pedagogies, practices, difficulties with learning numeracy and resources; Assessing numeracy in a school context
- Beyond numeracy: play, humour, entertainment and folklores
