Additional information

Unit content:This unit introduces you to the study of literature at university, and gives you the opportunity to read and reflect critically on some texts that mark key moments in literary history: • Renaissance drama and poetry • Nineteenth-century novel • Modernist poetry and prose (essay and fiction) • 1960s poetry and fiction • Contemporary theatre and fiction In the course of the semester we will read, discuss, analyse and write about a selection of drama, fiction and poetry. Thus we will explore the ways in which literature emerges in specific political and social contexts and, in turn, how literature helps shape specific experiences and developments in society at local, national and global levels.
