Learning outcomes
1.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of the traditions and techniques that fall under the general description of literary journalism;
2.
Be able to discuss and apply literary and creative devices;
3.
Carry out research, (including on site observation/immersion) and interviewing (including note-taking) with a view to writing an in-depth and original piece of journalism;
4.
Recognise and negotiate some of the ethical issues related to reporting on real things and real people;
5.
Write informatively and engagingly in a literary journalism style.

Unit content:This units cover the writing genre known as literary journalism, or creative nonfiction. Students will read the great works and other relevant examples of this form of literature. Students will discuss the techniques and professional issues of literary journalism, and apply their knowledge by producing their own piece of immersive reporting.
