Learning outcomes

1.
1) Through a combination of classroom and experiential learning at the host university and in the Japanese community, students will develop Japanese language skills to the level of “Intermediate (B1)” in terms of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The level of proficiency is typically described as the learner being able to: · understand the main points of clear, standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc; · deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken; · produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest; and · describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
2.
2) By immersing themselves in Japan with improved competency in the language, the students will also deepen their understanding of the structure and functioning of contemporary Japanese society. This will, in return, increase their awareness of their own cultural and linguistic background.
