Communicate knowledge of important (common, emerging and zoonotic) diseases encountered by veterinarians attending intensive animal production systems in clinical practice, including aetiology, clinical signs, diagnostics, therapeutics, prognosis and prevention.
Gather and analyse appropriate information to define a health problem in a herd or flock, including history, clinical exam, ancillary testing, sampling techniques in pigs and poultry, necropsy, economic data and literature.
Recognise and act on suspicion of reportable disease in production animal species.
Assess the welfare of animals in intensive production systems, including nutritional, behavioural and social needs, ‘fit to load’ criteria and health, and formulate recommendations appropriate to the animal and client.
Explain and assess the key elements of the physical environment of intensively farmed animals that can affect health and welfare.
Demonstrate critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills in the management of clinical cases.
