Learning outcomes

1.
Comprehend moderately-paced speech by native Japanese speakers talking about how to do things; discussing facilities and rules at Japanese youth hostels; stating their opinions; seeking and giving permission; and expressing their feelings.
2.
Read and write simple Japanese texts using a combination of hiragana, katakana and kanji related to the above topics.
3.
Use the vocabulary and grammatical structures studied in the unit to talk about those topics, both in conversation and as part of a prepared speech.
4.
Produce a neatly composed, appropriately-referenced short essay in Japanese, incorporating vocabulary and grammatical structures studied in the unit.
5.
Understand Japanese social customs related to the themes studied in the unit.
