Learning outcomes

Approach and handle cattle, small stock and horses safely and confidently;

Describe and evaluate the need for the common husbandry procedures performed on the domestic animal species;

Describe and analyse a given animal enterprise with reference to the generic major components common to all animal husbandry systems;
4.
Report and evaluate the basic economics of an animal enterprise as appropriate to a veterinary consultant;
5.
Communicate effectively with a worker in a cattle, sheep or horse husbandry environment using appropriate language and terminology;
6.
Work as an effective team member in an animal husbandry operation.

Unit content:

The main themes addressed in the unit are the normal behaviour and requirements of animals, the characteristics of the systems in which they are kept and the management procedures performed in these systems, and the safe and competent handling of animals.
