Additional information
This course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the specific considerations required for different techniques commonly applied to omics science. This unit also covers study design, sample preparation, and analytical experimental set up. The following omics science will be covered in order to develop general understanding on the key analytical techniques.
• Genomics
• Proteomics
• Transcriptomics
• Metagenomics/microbiomics
• Metabonomics
Examples of these techniques are nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, mass spectrometry coupled to liquid chromatography or gas chromatography, polymerase chain reaction, microarray, Q-PCR and RNA/DNA sequencing techniques. Students who attend the Graduate Diploma in Systems Medicine will gain further practical experience in several of these techniques through BIO510.
