Unit content:
Students will apply their accumulated technical knowledge and professional skills to this “capstone” process design activity. Each year a new design project will be developed, ideally with support from local industry, which will require the development of a full process design from initial concept planning through to full-scale process design, including detailed design of a range of unit operations. The operability of the proposed plant will be explored along with due consideration for plant and process safety. Importantly, the issue of environmental impact will be explored and assured through environmental impact assessment. The financial aspects of the proposed plant will also be considered to assess its financial viability.
