Enrolment in graduate coursework in a Murdoch Environmental, Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering discipline. Other Murdoch graduate students with equivalent qualifications may be enrolled with permission from the unit coordinator.
Students who have completed ENG3XX Environmental Water Chemistry cannot enrol in this unit for credit.

Unit content:The unit will cover the following topics:
· Definitions, units, nomenclature, and primary species figuring in equilibrium water chemistry.
· Calculation of aqueous species in water systems involving strong and weak acids and bases.
· Graphical solutions to pH dependent equilibrium problems.
· Equilibrium calculations for open and closed air-water systems.
· Equilibrium calculations and environmental importance of solid liquid dissolution and adsorption phenomena.
· Half-cell reactions and free energy calculations in common aqueous chemical reactions.
