Describe the difference between using Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANTT®), aseptic versus clean technique and evaluate evidence-based approaches to determining which technique to use

Understand the physiology of scars and critically analyse and evaluate methods of scar manaagement

Understand and describe the difference and relationship between infection, inflammation and biofilms and the management of these wounds

Unit content:

The unit will comprise of the following 6 modules to be delivered over 12 teaching weeks:

  • Wound cleansing methods – theory and practice
  • Debridement methods, indications, and scope of practice
  • Selecting the correct technique for cleansing a variety of wounds for different wound healing goals in a variety of healthcare settings
  • Anatomy and physiology of the fistula wound methods of managing fistula wounds and psychological impact on the patient
  • Anatomy and physiology of scars and techniques for scar management
  • The relationship between infection, inflammation and biofilms, recognition of symptoms and evidence-based management
