Develop strategies for data; collection, management and cleaning in analysing datasets;
Apply a variety of basic and more advanced statistical techniques to appropriately analyse public health data;
Assess, interpret and question the results of such analyses;
Conduct descriptive and analytic studies in public health and health policy research using appropriate statistical software.

This unit will concentrate on four topics chosen for their importance and utility in research in the public health and health policy field. These are: Survey Sampling Methods; Non-Parametric Statistical Methods; Linear Modelling; and Survival Analysis. This course also provides an understanding of the major study designs for obtaining quantitative and qualitative information relevant to population health research. The unit provides students with the skills to perform, present, and interpret basic statistical analyses using appropriate statistical packages.
