Additional information
Each week, a quick review of pertinent anatomy and physiology of a body system (excluding blood and musculoskeletal) will be provided in the lecture, and then relevant physical examination techniques and normal and abnormal findings and their interpretations will be covered. Also, some common disorders/illnesses regarding that particular systems will be discussed. Lectures are designed to draw on application of anatomy of the relevant structures and to engage the students in discussion of the pathophysiology of conditions. Students will also be expected to undertake self-directed studies to some extent.
Practicals will provide the essential skills for examination procedures and are reflective of practical examinations the student is to encounter in the unit. Practical sessions are designed to allow the student to observe correct procedures by an experienced clinician, followed by the opportunity to practice on each other and make use of peer feedback as a critical evaluation tool.
