Additional information

Unit content:

Public health Component
This unit is concerned with the health of the community as a whole addressing the main determinants of mortality and morbidity internationally. It covers community groups and special populations internationally but with emphasis on Australia. Students develop a pamphlet on a public health issue, and a research project also forms an important component of this unit. Expert interdisciplinary speakers will be featured as guest lecturers.
Mental Health Component
This unit will provide an overview of the science and profession of psychology; the role of psychology in health care, and specifically, in chiropractic care. It will overview relevant psychological models of human behaviour, emphasising bio-psycho-social interactions. It will explore some of the range of normal and abnormal psychological presentations that might commonly be seen in chiropractic practice, focusing on information gathering, effective communication, identification, practitioner response and the importance of appropriate referral. It will also involve four workshops designed to equipe students with the communication skills necessary to deal with a range of likely psychosocial issues encountered in chiropractic practice.
