Additional information
The unit begins with examining the history of the Christian faith from the human quest for God through to the Judeo-Christian story. There is a focus on Jesus of Nazareth as the promised Christ and the establishment of the Church after his death and resurrection. Further exploration leads to the creeds, or statements of belief, found in Catholic tradition. Creeds are used in many ritual celebrations of the Catholic Church, especially the sacraments. The seven sacraments provide the foundation for Christian life and these are explained under the headings of Initiation, Healing and Service. A study of the prayers, rites and symbols for each sacrament provide an understanding of their place in church tradition. The Religious Education program used in Catholic schools provides a rich background for the teaching of creed and sacraments.
