Learning outcomes

1.

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how yourself and students learn language and literacy. 

2.

Analyse the concepts, substance, structure and organisational framework of the 3 Dimensional Curriculum; English (Learning Area) and Literacy (General Capability.

Understand social and cultural features of language learning an importance of context and agency

4.

Diagnose personal literacy strengths and weaknesses and make informed choices about our own language use as a speaker, reader/viewer, writer of English.

5.

Observe and utilise reflective practice strategies and research skills to interpret texts and data on literacies

6.

Demonstrate and understanding of the role of the APSTs and the Murdoch Graduate Attributes in identifying professional learning needs

Unit content:

1. Develop your understandings of language and literacy for meeting the literacy learning needs of diverse primary school learners. 

2. Support you to identify strategies to develop literacy learning through a balanced approach to listening, speaking, reading/viewing and writing, using a range of texts. 

3. Increase your awareness of the impact of social, cultural and language background on language literacy teaching and learning.
