Additional information

Unit content:This unit provides a thorough understanding, knowledge and practical experience in using PLC systems for measurement and control in an industrial process setting. Topics include: · PLC categories and types · Project oriented development environment, hardware configuration and digital I/O · Programming emphasizing ladder logic but providing overview of STL& FBD; · Programming elements including logic operations, timers, counters; simulators; numerical and interrupt processing; · Process simulation, analog I/O, PID control; · Switching tables and State based design and implementation; · Overview of operator panels, networking, I/O modules and remote I/O; · High level programming in SCLand GRAPH; · Multiple PLC project development and documentation. The unit is delivered in a studio model whereby staff and students work together in solving a range of engineering projects associated with the content of this unit.
Other notes:Students will be expected to have experience in at least one programming language and some fundamental knowledge of electrical circuits and electronics.
