Critically evaluate published Indigenous research methodologies, including the use of explicitly articulated and defensible criteria, in an area linked to the student’s research thesis topic
Develop and apply skills required to produce a proposed Indigenous Research Method for the student’s research area including: an understanding of the method and why it is important; the ability to access relevant and current literature that has applied the method; the ability to evaluate the strengths and limitations of the method.
Write a Researcher Positionality Statement critically acknowledging the student’s relationship to their research topic and research population
Demonstrate ability to write a document outlining how the student’s proposed research study meets the 6 principles of ethical research as outlined in the NHMRC Ethical conduct in research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities: Guidelines for researchers and stakeholders 2018

Students will be supported by the unit coordinator to critically engage with key texts on Indigenous research methodologies and ethical principles for research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (i.e., AIATSIS and NHMRC guidelines).
