Approach and handle livestock safely and confidently;
At an introductory level, apply knowledge of normal farming systems to solve problems associated with disease and welfare;
Demonstrate an understanding of the normal farming systems, including husbandry, handling, welfare, biosecurity, and basic economics;

The main themes addressed in the unit are the understanding of normal behaviour and welfare needs of animals, the characteristics of the systems and environments in which they are kept, the roles, responsibilities and characteristics of stockpersons involved in the care of the animals and the management procedures performed in these systems, and the safe and competent handling of animals.
