Requisites

Enrolment rules

Students may need to have their language proficiency confirmed by the Unit Coordinator. Completion of second-year tertiary level Languages study (or equivalent) is recommended for students intending to teach Languages at K-10 level. Learning activities and assessments in this unit require use of the target language.

Learning outcomes

1.

Apply contemporary linguistic theory, particularly with regard to the processes of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) and Second Language Teaching (SLT), to teaching practice and learning design

2.

Compare, contrast, and critique relevant Languages, EFL, or EAL/D curriculum documentation and use that analysis to inform design of learning programs, lesson plans, and assessment practices

3.

Create differentiated learning tasks for multi-levelled Languages, EFL, and/or EAL/D classes which embed Task Based Language Teaching (TBLT)

4.

Apply principles and practices of Intercultural Language Learning within learning and teaching to enrich student experiences and meet curriculum requirements

5.

Incorporate critical reflective skills in the development of language teaching practice
