Additional information

Unit content:

The broad aim of this unit is to give students an understanding of photovoltaic systems technology and the implementation of said systems. The unit covers the following topics: • Photovoltaic system components, including PV arrays, inverters, charge controllers, batteries and balance of system components. • Stand Alone System design • PV water pumping applications • Safety and protection in PV systems. • Testing, monitoring and performance evaluation of PV systems and components. The unit will provide students with an overview of a variety of PV applications and system integration aspects. Furthermore, the unit will deal with system design methods for stand-alone systems. It will provide students with both theoretical principles and practical experiences.

Other notes:

Students who complete this unit are eligible for provisional accreditation by the Clean Energy Council for the design of stand-alone power systems.
