Unit content:

This unit provides an introduction to how psychologists conduct research in order to answer psychological questions.  You will explore some basic approaches to research design and analysis, and the issues that affect decision-making in research.  Over the course of the semester we will cover:

  • The goals of science
  • Introduction to psychological inquiry
  • Research questions and types of research
  • Introduction to psychological measurement
  • Descriptive statistics and graphical methods of analysis
  • Principles of statistical inference
  • Correlational design
  • Experimental design
  • Writing up research
  • Research Ethics
