Critically evaluate and synthesize theoretical knowledge, professional teaching strategies, formal curriculum and related resources appropriate to teaching mathematics to children, in the Curriculum strand of Number and Algebra.

Apply your understanding of the way in which children learn Number and Algebra concepts to analyse and respond to children’s current level of understanding and misconceptions and to design appropriate teaching sequences.

Unit content:

Your learning experiences in this unit will invite you to consider, conceptualise and make connections between - Curriculum and Pedagogy for Mathematics, Early number development, Whole number place value, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Fractions, Decimal place value and percentages, Patterns, Algebraic thinking and reasoning. You will also be introduced to the concept of long term planning rather than just individual lessons.
