Additional information
Unit content:This unit engages critically with the role of theatre in society through theory and performance praxis. Students gain experience and training in a theatrical production which engages with the community directly, exploring a different mode of social theatre each year. These modes may include children’s theatre, drama-in-education, popular theatre, community theatre, community cultural development, and cross-cultural performance, amongst others. Students will critically consider a range of theoretical, ethical, and practical questions in relation to the chosen mode of theatre in society, and apply this learning through a practical production. As well as adding to the students’ understanding of the role that theatre plays in society, the unit offers students the opportunity to develop practical creative skills in a workplace-simulated production environment.
