Evaluate and discuss a range of diagnostic assessments and intervention approaches for literacy learning, in order to support students with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Create an individual education plan and programs in literacy for students with a range of learning disabilities and other disabilities using evidence-based instruction.
Design learning experiences in the school and the community as appropriate for student’s instructional needs.
Critically analyse the English language and literacy demands of schooling and identify equity implications and issues for diverse students’ access to and achievement in the academic curriculum.
Design a range of language and literacy-developing tasks and strategies for students with difficulties
in speaking, listening, reading and writing
Synthesize theories about language and literacy with subject area knowledge and
teaching practices to improve teaching practice.

Content will include the following: · Adaptation of literacy curricula (with a focus on basic language and literacy skills) to meet the needs of students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties. · Program development for students with learning difficulties and mild disabilities whose needs are met by appropriate adaptation of mainstream literacy curricula. · Assessment and implementation of the adapted programs with a focus on effective teaching strategies. · Examination of current research, reforms and debates in literacy instruction in terms of meeting the needs of students with learning difficulties.
